The
process of successfully breeding a mare with shipped cooled semen
has been used with success for many years now. We have created
this checklist to outline the process for you. It highlights
all of the scheduled fees and contacts between the mare owner and
Halifax Farm which are formally stated in the breeding contract. Before Signing the Breeding Contract
At the Signing of the Breeding Contract
Before Delivery of the Semen
When you and your vet determine that your mare is in heat notify Halifax Farm by telephone at (919) 554-1030 or by email at suzin@halifaxfarm.com Check that we have confirmed your message if you did not talk to Suzin Daly in person on the phone. If your contact has not been confirmed by 8:00 PM Eastern time, contact us again. When your vet determines by ultrasound or by palpation that you are ready to receive the semen within 24 - 48 hours, contact Halifax Farm again at (919) 554-1030 or by email at suzin@halifaxfarm.com Again, check that we have confirmed your message if you did not talk to Suzin Daly in person on the phone. If your contact has not been confirmed by 8:00 PM, contact us again. Halifax Farm will arrange to collect and ship the semen. We will contact you to let you know it has been shipped. Because shipped
cooled Semen has a short shelf life, you should make arrangements
to inseminate your mare with the semen on the day it arrives. A Mare Breeding Passport will arrive with the first shipment. This is used by your vet to record each insemination and examination afterwards. It is needed for our records and to enable us to fill out the paperwork you will need to get your foal's Registration with SWANA. Have your vet inseminate your mare as soon after arrival of the semen as possible. Return the shipping container to us within 5 working days along with a note from your Vet acknowledging receipt of the semen. After Insemination Have your mare examined by your vet between 14 and 55 days after insemination. If she is found to be in foal, have the vet complete the Breeding Passport and send the completed Breeding Passport to Halifax Farm. If, when your mare is examined, she is found to be open notify Halifax Farm by mail, email or phone call. Or, if your mare does not produce a live foal that stands and nurses, or if your mare aborts send notice to Halifax Farm by mail or email within two days. Because we at Halifax Farm are concerned about the outcome of our breeding's, send us a statement from your Vet with the details of the foals death. You may then contact us to arrange for a new shipment of semen. Live Foal Guarantee If your Mare should die or become unfit for service before this period expires, you may substitute another suitable mare to complete the terms of the breeding contract.
Please contact us at any time with questions and concerns. We very much want your mare to provide you with a wonderful foal. You can contact us through email suzin@halifaxfarm.com or (919)554-1030. |
